SOME INITIAL EXPLORATIONS

Designing for convenience

Designing for convenience

One common trend i noticed while exploring some other delivery solutions was that users are limited to what they can do on the app. They have to place orders from their website and can only track the order via the app with a tracking ID… notice the image below.

To solve this problem, I designed the app so that users can book and track their deliveries all on the app without having to switch between the website and mobile app

After Testing out this initial solution, we decided not to go through with this because of accessibility issues and the fact that the amount of screens it took users to book for a delivery was too much.

SOME INITIAL EXPLORATIONS

Designing for efficiency and reliability

To ensure that the app met with users needs and retain their usage - which is to get their goods at the time they want it without any issues, I designed the app so that users can get in contact with the rider assigned to deliver and pickup their order, this way they can make sure their delivery is on track even though they could still track it on the app. There was also a driver rating system whereby users could rate drivers and leave comments, this way top rated drivers are best assigned deliveries. I also added an in app customer support feature where users can easily talk to a customer support agent if they are having any issues with their delivery.

THE REALITY OF LOGISTICS BUSINESS POST PANDEMIC

With people staying at home and more remote work, the demand for delivery services has increased. More people are ordering food, groceries, and other essential items online, delivery options for consumers and businesses have widened.

Fastrack stakeholders decided to create a solution for this by building an app which people can use to send and receive packages hassle free. I mean wouldn't it be nice to sit at the comfort of your home and get your package picked up and delivered? But what is fastrack bringing to the table that other delovery apps haven't done already?

Reduction of the steps it took users to book a delivery to 3 screens, fixed the accessibility issues by making the "send package'' button more pronounced with a solid color as opposed to the initial design exploration

REFLECTIONS

Fastrack, is a realistic approach to delivery apps. Inspired by the need to help users send packages to their destination hassle free.

It is okay to let go of some features, It's important to remember that not every design feature is necessary or valuable to the user. Simple user experience and improved usability is of utmost importance. When considering which features to prioritize or remove, designers should always keep the user's needs and goals in mind.

Design decisions are never made in a vacuum, every design decision has an impact on the user experience, and it is important to consider all aspects of the product's context when making these decisions. This includes factors such as the user's needs and expectations, the product's intended use, and the environment in which it will be used. By taking a holistic approach to design, designers can create products that truly meet the needs of their users.
