Traveling is not just seeing the new, it is also leaving behind. By exploring the world, we gain a greater appreciation for its beauty and diversity, and we become more open-minded and adaptable to new situations. And even when we return home, the memories and lessons we've learned stay with us forever.

The purpose of the case study is to examine the limitations that travelers may face that prevent them from pursuing their passion. By identifying these challenges, the study aims to provide solutions and recommendations that can help people overcome these barriers and achieve their travel goals. It's worth noting that the term "Nomad" is simply a placeholder and does not represent a real company or brand. Rather, it is a fictional entity that I created to help frame the case study.

Uncovering Issues🤌🏾

Emily is not alone. Many people around the world face financial, accessibility, or other barriers that prevent them from experiencing the joys of travel. When I first started this project, I knew that I wanted to design a travel app that would help people like Emily plan their dream trips. But before I could start designing, I needed to understand what challenges and pain points travelers like Emily face when planning their trips.

I started by conducting a user survey with 35 people who loves traveling, to find out their challenges and things that would prevent them from traveling. In fact one of the respondents had this to say

''when I broke my ankle and was limited on mobility and we traveled it would have been nice where I could go on a wheel chair or crutches. I traveled to Turks and Caicos with a broken leg. The plane ride was excruciating. We searched online where to get a wheelchair once we landed could not find one to rent. Crossing the roads in a foreign territory was scary. Getting to the resort they promised us some solution to getting around on the beach with crutches but they did not. I chose to continue to go on this trip because it was non refundable and was super expensive. But hopefully that helps in the scenario someone needs to travel on a wheelchair or crutches.''

After synthesizing the key insights from my research, I created an empathy map for Emily. This involved capturing my observations on how Emily thinks, feels, speaks, and behaves in various scenarios. The purpose of the empathy map was to gain a deeper understanding of Emily's needs, motivations, and pain points, and to help me develop more targeted design solutions

Learning from the past

I conducted an analysis of travel apps that are most Inclusive and accessible In order to borrow a leaf and learn from then and Naturally I thought of Airbnb and Tripadvisor

Airbnb and Tripadvisor has taken several steps to create an inclusive platform that welcomes a diverse range of travelers and hosts. Here are a few reasons why I think Airbnb is successful in this regard

  1. Accessibility features: Airbnb offers accessibility features such as filters for wheelchair-accessible listings, visual and audible smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and step-free access to rooms and common areas.

  2. Diverse host community: Airbnb's host community is diverse, with hosts from different backgrounds and ethnicities, and from different parts of the world.

  3. Translation tools: Airbnb provides translation tools to help guests and hosts communicate across different languages.

  4. Trip advisor User reviews and rating system allows guests to share feedback on their experiences with hosts and properties, promoting transparency and accountability

Lessons Learnt and what I'll do differently

This project was a lengthy one, I took my time to gather information which gave me a lot of insight as to how best to design the product which I had so much fun doing. From having to read a lot of articles about AR and VR to learning how best to make the experience immersive.

There is always a room for improvement with digital products and I could think of a lot things that I will definitely improve in this product Later on. Some of which are stated in a table above under things that could be implemented later on the app.
